The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 16700016 is a gapless ear clamp designed to secure low durometer and thin-walled hose or tubing in plumbing, HVAC, and general fluid-handling applications. With a nominal size of 5/8 inch, a minimum clamp diameter of 0.52 inches, and a maximum clamp diameter of 0.618 inches, this clamp provides a consistent, uniform seal around the hose circumference. The gapless ear design eliminates the gap found in traditional open-ear clamps, reducing the risk of hose damage and improving seal integrity. The 7 mm band width distributes clamping force evenly, making it well suited for softer or thinner hose materials that can deform under uneven pressure.
This clamp is appropriate for residential and light commercial installations where small-diameter soft hose or tubing connections are required. Typical applications include condensate drain lines, refrigerant-side tubing, fuel lines, and general fluid transfer connections. It is specifically recommended for use with low durometer and thin-walled hose or tubing where conventional worm-gear or open-ear clamps may cause pinching, cracking, or deformation of the hose wall.
Designed for use with low durometer and thin-walled hose or tubing at a nominal diameter of 5/8 inch. Suitable for small-diameter hose connections in HVAC, plumbing, and fluid-handling systems where a gapless ear-style clamp is specified.
Gapless ear clamps are typically installed using a dedicated ear clamp pincer tool that crimps the ear to the specified diameter - do not use standard pliers, as uneven crimping can compromise the seal. Ensure the hose is fully seated on the fitting before positioning and crimping the clamp. Verify the hose outer diameter falls within the 0.52 to 0.618 inch working range before installation. Shut off and depressurize any fluid system before servicing hose connections.
