The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 12046 is a brass male adapter fitting that connects a 5/16-inch female inverted flare end to a 1/4-inch male NPTF thread. It is designed for use in hydraulic and fuel line assemblies where a reliable, leak-resistant transition between inverted flare tubing and a tapered pipe thread port is required. The fitting is machined from brass and rated to 1200 psi working pressure with a temperature range of -65 to 250 degrees F. The 0.56-inch hex body allows for standard wrench engagement during installation. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and hydraulic system technicians install this type of adapter in low-pressure to medium-pressure fluid or gas circuit connections.
This adapter is suited for residential and light commercial applications involving copper, brass, aluminum, and steel hydraulic tubing with a 0.032-inch tube wall. Common install scenarios include brake line transitions, fuel system connections, and refrigerant or pneumatic circuits where an inverted flare tube meets a NPTF-ported component such as a valve body, manifold, or pump fitting. The overall length of the fitting is 0.98 inches, making it compact enough for tight routing arrangements.
Designed for use with copper, brass, aluminum, and steel hydraulic tubing with a 0.032-inch tube wall. Thread specification is 1/2-20 inverted flare x 1/4-18 NPTF.
Installation should be performed by a qualified technician familiar with hydraulic or fuel line assembly practices. Always depressurize and drain the system before removing or installing fittings. Apply appropriate thread sealant to the NPTF male threads in accordance with the system fluid compatibility requirements. Do not overtighten the inverted flare nut, as brass fittings are susceptible to thread damage from excessive torque.
