The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 10461 is a brass SAE 45-degree flare reducer fitting designed to connect tubing lines of two different diameters in hydraulic and refrigeration plumbing systems. It transitions from a 1/4-inch male flared end to a 1/2-inch female flared end, making it a direct solution for reducing line size without additional adapters. Rated to 750 psi and suitable for temperatures ranging from -65 to 250 degrees F, this fitting handles demanding service conditions. The 0.94-inch hex body provides secure wrench engagement during installation. At 0.13 pounds, it is a compact, field-ready component suitable for licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, and refrigeration mechanics.
This reducer is intended for use with aluminum, brass, copper, and steel hydraulic tubing that can be flared to the SAE 45-degree standard. It fits applications in residential and light commercial HVAC systems, refrigeration lines, and hydraulic plumbing where a size reduction between flared connections is required. The minimum tube wall thickness for proper flare seating is 0.032 inches. Typical installations include service and repair work on refrigerant line sets, fuel lines, and hydraulic circuits where a male-to-female flare size transition is needed at a union point.
Designed for use with aluminum, brass, copper, and steel hydraulic tubing that can be flared to the SAE 45-degree standard, with a minimum tube wall thickness of 0.032 inches.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, HVAC technician, or qualified mechanic familiar with flared tubing connections. Shut off system pressure and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any flare fitting. Use an appropriately sized wrench on the hex body to achieve a snug, leak-free connection without overtightening, which can distort the flare seat. Inspect the flare seat on both the tubing and the fitting for damage or debris before assembly.
