The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 10421 is a forged brass 90-degree reducing elbow designed for hydraulic and fluid tubing systems requiring a directional change with a simultaneous size reduction. It connects a 5/8 inch SAE 45-degree male flared end to a 1/2 inch SAE 45-degree male flared end, making it a practical solution wherever two different line sizes meet at a right angle. Rated to 650 psi and suitable for operating temperatures from -65 to 250 degrees F, this fitting handles demanding service conditions. Thread dimensions are 7/8-14 on the larger end and 3/4-16 on the smaller end, with a 1.23 inch hex flat for wrench engagement.
This fitting is intended for use with aluminum, brass, copper, and steel hydraulic tubing that can be flared to the SAE 45-degree standard. It is well suited to residential and commercial HVAC refrigerant line work, hydraulic systems, fuel lines, and similar fluid-handling applications where a reducing 90-degree turn is required. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and hydraulic system installers working with flared tubing connections will find this fitting appropriate for tight-space routing where line sizes must transition at a right angle.
Designed for use with aluminum, brass, copper, and steel hydraulic tubing that can be flared to the SAE 45-degree standard, requiring a minimum tube wall thickness of 0.035 inches.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber, HVAC technician, or hydraulic system mechanic. Depressurize and isolate the line completely before removing any existing fittings or making new connections. Ensure both mating flares are properly formed to the SAE 45-degree specification before tightening; damaged or improperly formed flares are a leading cause of leaks at this connection type. Use an appropriate flare nut wrench on the 1.23 inch hex to avoid rounding the fitting body.
