The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 103440 is a reducing coupling designed to connect piping of two different sizes within a threaded system. It transitions from a 1-inch female pipe thread (FPT) on one end to a 3/8-inch FPT on the other, allowing downstream lines to step down in diameter without additional adapters. Built from 304 stainless steel and rated to a 3000 lb pressure class, this fitting is suited for demanding liquid and gas service applications where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
This reducing coupling is used in industrial and commercial piping systems where a high-pressure threaded connection is needed between a 1-inch and a 3/8-inch line. The 3000 lb pressure class rating makes it appropriate for high-pressure hydraulic, steam, oil, gas, and process fluid lines. Its 304 stainless steel construction suits environments exposed to moisture, mild chemicals, or temperature cycling. Typical installations include industrial process piping, mechanical rooms, and compressed-gas distribution systems requiring a reliable, permanent threaded transition.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reducing coupling for high-pressure piping systems requiring a 1-inch to 3/8-inch FPT transition in 304 stainless steel at 3000 lb pressure class.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable codes such as the IPC or ASME B31 piping standards. Isolate and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to a snug fit using a pipe wrench - avoid over-tightening, which can crack or distort fittings. Verify system pressure rating against the fitting class before returning the line to service.
