The MERIT BRASS XNL114-1608 is a hex head pipe bushing used to reduce a 1-inch male NPT fitting down to a 1/2-inch female NPT port. Machined from rough brass, it carries a 125 lb pressure rating suitable for typical low-pressure plumbing and fluid-handling applications. The external hex profile allows a standard wrench to drive the bushing into a tee, coupling, valve body, or other female-threaded fitting without slipping. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of reduction bushing wherever two threaded pipe sizes must be joined inline without adding extra fittings to the run.
This bushing fits into standard 1-inch FNPT ports and accepts 1/2-inch MNPT pipe or fittings on the outlet side. It is appropriate for residential and light commercial plumbing systems, water distribution lines, compressed air distribution at low pressure, and general fluid service. The brass construction resists corrosion in potable water and many common fluid media, making it a practical choice for both new installations and repair work on existing threaded pipe systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded brass pipe systems using 1-inch FNPT female ports and 1/2-inch MNPT male pipe connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the supply line before threading the bushing into any fitting or valve body. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before installation. Do not over-torque brass fittings, as brass threads can gall or strip under excessive force.
