The MERIT BRASS XNL112-3220 is a brass pipe reducer coupling designed to connect pipes of two different nominal diameters within a threaded piping system. Rated at 125 lb, this fitting transitions from a 2-inch nominal female thread to a 1-1/4-inch nominal female thread (FNPT on both ends), allowing fluid flow between mismatched pipe sizes without additional adapters. The rough brass finish is standard for general plumbing and industrial applications where the fitting will be concealed or downstream of visible infrastructure. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
This reducer coupling is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing systems, hydronic heating distribution lines, compressed air systems, and general fluid handling pipework where NPT threaded connections are specified. It is commonly installed at branch transitions, equipment connections, or service entry points where pipe size reduction is required. The 125 lb pressure rating makes it appropriate for low-to-medium pressure service in standard piping assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded brass piping systems using 2-inch and 1-1/4-inch NPT pipe, conforming to standard 125 lb brass fitting dimensions.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male pipe threads before engagement. Do not over-tighten, as brass threads can be damaged by excessive torque.
