The MERIT BRASS XNL112-1608 is a brass pipe reducer coupling designed to connect pipes of two different nominal diameters in a threaded piping system. It transitions from a 1-inch nominal female connection to a 1/2-inch nominal female connection, with Female National Pipe Taper (FNPT) threads on both ends. Rated at 125 lb, this coupling is suited for low-to-medium pressure service in water, gas, and general-purpose fluid systems. The rough brass finish indicates an unpolished, as-cast exterior. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting during new construction and service work on residential and light commercial piping systems.
This reducer coupling is used wherever a piping run must step down from a 1-inch line to a 1/2-inch branch or supply line. Common applications include potable water distribution, hydronic heating systems, compressed air lines, and fuel gas piping where brass fittings are permitted by local code. The FNPT thread pattern allows direct connection to male-threaded pipe ends or fittings without adapters. It is appropriate for both new installations and retrofit work on existing threaded piping systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1-inch to 1/2-inch nominal threaded pipe systems using standard FNPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IFGC requirements where gas service is involved. Shut off the water or gas supply and depressurize the line completely before threading in the fitting. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly — do not apply sealant to FNPT female ends. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench on the fitting flats only.
