The MERIT BRASS MB12620 is a reducing fitting designed for sweat-to-press transition connections in copper piping systems. It connects a 2-inch FTG (fitting) end to a 1-inch press end, allowing a technician to step down pipe size within a pressurized water or hydronic system. At 0.65 pounds, it is a compact, single-piece fitting suited for tight mechanical spaces. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of reducer during new construction, remodel work, or repair of distribution piping where a diameter reduction is required without additional adapters.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial plumbing and hydronic heating applications where copper pipe systems require a reduction from 2-inch to 1-inch line size. The FTG end accepts a standard copper pipe or fitting for soldering, while the press end is installed using a press tool, eliminating open-flame work at that joint. This makes it well suited for retrofit or service work in occupied buildings or areas where torch use is restricted.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation reducing fitting for 2-inch to 1-inch copper FTG-by-press piping configurations in residential and commercial plumbing systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and local plumbing codes. Shut off the water supply and depressurize and drain the affected line before cutting in the fitting. The FTG end requires standard copper soldering practice; the press end requires a compatible press tool and jaw sized for the 1-inch press connection. Do not over-heat the fitting body when soldering the FTG side, as excess heat can damage the press end sealing element.
