The MERIT BRASS MB12600 is a reducing coupling designed for copper press fitting systems. It connects a 1.5-inch fitting-end (FTG) side to a 1-inch press connection, allowing a transition between two pipe sizes without soldering or open flame. This type of fitting is used in potable water and hydronic piping systems where press-fit tooling is the preferred joining method. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting during new construction, retrofit, and repair work where speed and flame-free connections are required.
This coupling is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing and hydronic heating applications. The FTG end accepts a copper pipe or fitting of the same nominal size, while the press end creates a watertight mechanical joint using a press tool and the fitting's built-in seal. It is a practical choice when reducing from a 1.5-inch main run down to a 1-inch branch or terminal connection.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard component for residential and commercial copper press fitting systems using 1.5-inch and 1-inch nominal copper pipe.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with local plumbing codes and applicable IPC standards. Shut off and depressurize the water supply and verify the pipe is dry before pressing the fitting. Use a press tool approved for the fitting size and verify the indicator window confirms a complete press before restoring pressure. Do not mix press-fit fittings with incompatible press jaw profiles.
