The MERIT BRASS C112-0806 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two female NPT-threaded pipe ends of different diameters in a single inline fitting. It steps down from a 1/2-inch pipe to a 3/8-inch pipe, making it a standard solution for reducing flow path diameter without additional adapters. Built to Class 125 pressure rating, this coupling is suited for low-pressure plumbing, gas supply, and instrumentation lines. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting during new construction, remodel, or repair work where pipe size transitions are required.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing and gas distribution systems where a threaded pipe size reduction is needed inline. The FNPT x FNPT configuration accepts standard tapered male pipe threads on both mating pipes, making it compatible with common iron pipe size fittings throughout the supply chain. Typical applications include water supply branch lines, compressed air distribution, and low-pressure gas piping where a 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch step-down is required.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reducing coupling for 1/2-inch x 3/8-inch IPS pipe systems using FNPT connections rated at Class 125.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant tape or paste to the male threads of the mating pipe before hand-tightening, then wrench-tighten to achieve a leak-free joint without overtightening the brass fitting body. Pressure-test the assembly after installation before returning the system to service.
