The MERIT BRASS 8048-450 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061-grade aluminum alloy. It measures 3 inches in diameter and 4.5 inches in length, with threads on both ends for standard threaded pipe connections. This nipple is used to create short, rigid connections between threaded pipe fittings, valves, or equipment ports. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting in fluid, gas, and compressed-air distribution systems where corrosion resistance and light weight are priorities. The 6061 alloy provides good strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to many chemicals and atmospheric conditions.
This nipple suits residential, commercial, and light industrial piping applications where aluminum threading is compatible with the fluid or gas being conveyed. Schedule 40 wall thickness meets standard pressure and mechanical load requirements for general-service pipe runs. It is well suited for compressed-air lines, irrigation systems, and similar low-to-medium pressure installations. Both ends carry full pipe threads, allowing direct make-up into standard NPT-threaded fittings, couplings, or equipment connections without additional adapters.

Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the fluid or gas being conveyed. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Use thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium and verify that aluminum is compatible with the piping system fluid and any dissimilar metals in contact to avoid galvanic corrosion. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as aluminum threads are more susceptible to galling and deformation than steel.
