The MERIT BRASS 8008-350 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061 aluminum alloy. It measures 1/2 inch nominal pipe size by 3.5 inches in length and is threaded on both ends for direct connection to fittings, valves, or threaded pipe. Weighing just 0.078 pounds, this nipple is well suited for lightweight piping systems where corrosion resistance and reduced system weight are priorities. OSHA-listed construction makes it appropriate for industrial and commercial plumbing and pneumatic applications. This pipe nipple is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial piping systems where aluminum construction is specified. Common applications include low-pressure fluid lines, air lines, and corrosive-environment service where steel fittings are not preferred. The 6061 alloy designation indicates a heat-treatable, weldable aluminum with good machinability and moderate strength. Designed as a standard 1/2-inch NPT Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple suitable for use with compatible aluminum or brass threaded fittings and valves in low-pressure fluid, air, and gas piping systems where aluminum material is appropriate.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC codes for the service type. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before threading the nipple into fittings. Do not overtighten aluminum threads, as 6061 aluminum is softer than steel and susceptible to thread damage under excessive torque.
