The MERIT BRASS 8006-550 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061-series aluminum alloy. It measures 3/8 inch nominal pipe size by 5.5 inches in length and is threaded on both ends for standard NPT connections. This nipple is used to extend or connect pipe runs in low-pressure fluid and gas distribution systems where a lightweight, corrosion-resistant fitting is required. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this part as a direct threaded connector between valves, couplings, or other pipe fittings. The 6061 alloy delivers solid machinability and corrosion resistance across a wide range of service environments.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, pneumatic, and low-pressure fluid handling applications. Its Schedule 40 wall thickness meets standard pressure ratings for 3/8 inch nominal pipe, making it appropriate for water, air, and compatible fluid service lines. Threaded-on-both-ends construction allows direct installation into female-threaded fittings, valves, or manifolds without additional preparation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for 3/8 inch NPT threaded pipe systems using Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipples.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing any threaded pipe component. Apply a compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before making up the joint; do not overtighten, as aluminum threads can gall or strip under excessive torque. Verify that the service fluid and operating pressure are compatible with 6061 aluminum before installation.
