The MERIT BRASS 4004-4800 is a welded stainless steel pipe nipple designed for use in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping systems where corrosion resistance and durability are required. Manufactured from Grade 304/304L stainless steel, this nipple meets Schedule 40 wall thickness requirements, making it suitable for moderate-pressure service in both liquid and gas applications. The 1/4 inch pipe size fits standard threaded fittings of the same nominal diameter. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple as a short threaded connector between valves, fittings, or equipment ports in ferrous and non-ferrous piping assemblies.
This pipe nipple is well suited for residential and light commercial applications including water supply lines, compressed air systems, chemical transfer piping, and HVAC hydronic systems. The Grade 304/304L dual-certification makes it compatible with both standard and low-carbon stainless requirements, providing flexibility for welded and non-welded piping configurations. Its 1/4 inch nominal pipe size is commonly found at equipment connections, gauge ports, and instrumentation taps where a compact, corrosion-resistant threaded connector is needed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-stock fitting for 1/4 inch NPT threaded piping assemblies in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial applications requiring Schedule 40 stainless steel construction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC requirements for the specific service type. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded stainless steel fittings, as galling can occur and damage the threads permanently.
