The MERIT BRASS 01612-2012 is a concentric pipe reducer fitting used to transition between a 1-1/4 inch pipe and a 3/4 inch pipe in a single in-line reduction. Fabricated from 316L stainless steel, this fitting is suited for corrosive or high-purity fluid systems where low carbon content and weld-joint integrity are critical. Both ends are butt weld connections, making it appropriate for permanent, full-penetration welded assemblies. Rated for Schedule 10 wall thickness, the fitting is used by pipefitters, plumbers, and mechanical contractors working on process piping, chemical distribution, food service, or pharmaceutical systems.
This reducer fits standard Schedule 10 piping runs where a concentric bore reduction keeps the centerline of the pipe aligned, which is the preferred geometry for horizontal gas or liquid lines and for pump suction and discharge applications. The 316L grade offers improved resistance to intergranular corrosion compared to standard 316 after welding, making it a common choice in sanitary and marine environments. Installations are typically performed by certified welders or licensed pipefitters following applicable piping codes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 10 stainless steel piping systems using 1-1/4 inch to 3/4 inch concentric butt weld reducers.
Installation requires a certified welder or licensed pipefitter working to applicable codes such as ASME B31.3 for process piping or ASME B31.1 for power piping. Deburr and clean pipe ends before fitting to ensure full weld penetration and to avoid contamination of the weld zone. Isolate and depressurize the piping system completely before cutting in or replacing any fitting. Post-weld passivation or pickling of the stainless joint area is recommended where corrosion resistance is a system requirement.
