The MERIT ABRASIVES OLD08834167118 is a 3-inch quick-change coated abrasive disc engineered for fast stock removal and surface finishing in demanding trade applications. It uses a zirconia alumina abrasive bonded to a heavy Y-weight polyester backing, delivering durability under aggressive grinding loads. The disc carries an 80-grit medium grade and is rated to 20,000 RPM. A self-lubricating treatment reduces heat buildup during extended grinding sessions, which extends disc life and helps maintain workpiece integrity. The Type R Power-Lock attachment system secures the disc quickly to compatible handheld disc sanders without additional hardware.
This disc is suited for stock removal, weld blending, and deburring tasks across a wide range of materials. Confirmed material applications include 300 series stainless steel, 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, fiberglass and composites, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, hard woods, and soft woods. The flexible backing conforms moderately to contoured surfaces, making it useful on fabricated assemblies and weldments where flat-platen rigidity would miss low spots. It is compatible with handheld disc sanders and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 50 units.
Designed for use with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Type R Power-Lock quick-change attachment system. Confirmed material compatibility includes 300 and 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, fiberglass and composites, hard and soft carbon steels, and hard and soft woods.
This disc is installed and removed by a licensed or qualified grinding equipment operator following the tool manufacturer's safe operating procedures. Before changing discs, ensure the sander is unplugged or its power source is fully de-energized. Inspect the disc for cracks, tears, or delamination before mounting and do not exceed the 20,000 RPM maximum speed rating. Eye protection and appropriate PPE are required when operating abrasive grinding equipment.
