The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834166451 is a non-woven aluminum oxide quick-change disc designed for surface conditioning, blending, and finishing on metal and other hard materials. Built to the Roloc Type 3 (TR Type III) standard, it mounts quickly to compatible Type R mandrels for fast disc swaps on angle grinders and die grinders. At 50 grit, this disc cuts in the coarse range, making it well-suited for weld blending, rust removal, and surface prep ahead of coating or bonding. The flexible non-woven construction conforms to contoured surfaces and reduces the risk of gouging. Each package contains 10 discs at 4 inches in diameter.
This disc is used in fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and field service environments where quick material changes and consistent surface finish are priorities. Electricians, pipefitters, ironworkers, and general fabricators reach for non-woven quick-change discs when prepping metal surfaces before welding, priming, or applying pipe wrap. The coarse 50-grit rating handles heavy oxidation and scale without loading up as quickly as bonded abrasive alternatives. The brown disc color and black button are standard identifiers for this grit range in the non-woven format.
Compatible with Type R mandrels and Roloc-style quick-change systems using TR (Type III) attachment. Requires a matching quick-change mandrel sold separately. Designed as a drop-in fit for any grinder or die grinder accepting Type R disc attachments.
Installation and disc changes are performed by pressing the disc onto a Type R mandrel and rotating to lock. Always confirm the tool is powered off and unplugged or battery removed before changing discs. Verify the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 15,000 RPM rating marked on the disc. Operators should wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when using abrasive discs.
