The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834166242 is a quick-change abrasive disc designed for surface preparation and finishing work across a range of metal and composite materials. Part of the Merit Surface Prep series, this disc features a non-woven aluminum oxide construction on a flexible polyester and nylon web backing. At 50 grit (coarse grade), it delivers moderate material removal with a smear-free finish. The Type R quick-change attachment system mounts and dismounts rapidly on compatible tooling, reducing downtime during multi-step surface prep operations. Rated to 40,000 RPM, it is suited for use with high-speed inline and die grinders.
This disc is intended for professional use in metalworking, fabrication, and finishing applications. It is compatible with 300 and 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, super alloys, titanium, and fiberglass or composite materials. Compatible machines include die grinders, handheld disc sanders, inline grinders, and straight grinders. Its high-loft nylon fiber construction extends service life, and the Clean Bond resin technology helps prevent material smearing during use — a common concern when working stainless or exotic alloys.
Designed for use on 300 series stainless, 400 series stainless, fiberglass and composites, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, super alloys, titanium, and tool steels. Compatible with die grinders, handheld disc sanders, inline grinders, and straight grinders equipped with a Type R quick-change interface.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the grinder powered off and disconnected from its air or electrical supply. Verify that the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 40,000 RPM maximum disc rating before operation. The Type R attachment system requires a compatible mandrel — confirm mandrel condition and thread engagement before use. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when mounting or operating abrasive discs.
