The MASTER LOCK 81 is a steel-body padlock built for general-purpose security in light commercial and industrial applications. The lock features a 1-3/4 inch wide steel body and a 5/16 inch diameter steel shackle with 15/16 inch of clearance height. It ships keyed different, meaning each lock operates on its own unique key. The 5-pin tumbler cylinder provides solid pick resistance for a lock in this class. Installers and facility maintenance technicians use this lock to secure cabinets, gates, tool chests, and storage enclosures where a compact, reliable padlock is required.
The MASTER LOCK 81 is suited for light commercial, institutional, and residential use where a standardized, non-rekeyable padlock is the preferred solution. Common applications include securing utility panels, storage units, fence hasps, and equipment cabinets. Because each unit is keyed different, this lock is typically deployed in scenarios where individual key control per lock is acceptable rather than a master-key or keyed-alike program. The silver steel body and shackle are appropriate for dry or occasional-exposure environments.
Designed as a standard replacement or new-installation padlock compatible with hasps, chains, and hardware fittings that accept a shackle diameter of 5/16 inch and a body width of 1-3/4 inch.
Installation requires no special tools — thread the shackle through the hasp, chain link, or locking hardware and close until the shackle clicks locked. Verify the hasp or anchor hardware is rated for the intended load before securing. This lock is non-rekeyable; if keys are lost, replace the lock rather than attempting to rekey. Facility technicians should store spare keys in a secured key control system per site security policy.
