The MAGAFOR 81196030000 is a cobalt M-35 (HSS-E) spotting drill designed to create accurate center spots and guide holes before drilling operations. Built to Series 196 standards, this single-ended tool features a 120-degree point angle, a 3 mm cutting diameter, and a 2-inch overall length. The cobalt M-35 construction provides increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel, making it well-suited for harder workpiece materials. The bright, uncoated finish allows machinists to closely monitor tool wear during use. Right-hand cutting direction and a straight-cylindrical shank make this drill compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders.
This spotting drill is intended for general-purpose spotting and center-marking applications in production and job-shop machining environments. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned design help reduce thrust force at entry, improving accuracy when locating hole positions before a full twist drill follows. It is used by machinists and toolroom technicians on mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers where precise hole location is required before a larger drill is run. The 3 mm shank diameter matches the cutting diameter, keeping the setup simple with standard toolholding.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks, ER collets, and similar toolholding systems that accept a 3 mm straight-cylindrical shank on mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers.
This tool should be installed and removed by a qualified machinist following the machine manufacturer's toolholding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank with appropriate chuck or collet torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Use spotting drills at lower feed rates than standard twist drills to avoid point deflection and preserve hole-location accuracy.
