The MACOMB GROUP APPROVED B3151-3X is an insulation protection shield designed to protect pipe insulation at hanger and support points. Fabricated from 18-gauge low carbon steel with a pre-galvanized finish meeting ASTM A653 coating standards, it prevents compression and damage to insulation where the pipe contacts the support structure. The shield measures 12 inches in length and fits a nominal 2-1/2 inch pipe with a 2-7/8 inch inside diameter. It is installed by pipefitters and plumbers on insulated piping systems in mechanical, commercial, and industrial applications.
This shield is used wherever insulated piping passes through a hanger or support to maintain insulation integrity and prevent cold spots, condensation, and energy loss. It is suited for residential mechanical rooms, commercial HVAC piping systems, and industrial process piping. The pre-galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance for both indoor and moderately exposed environments. Installation follows MSS ANSI/SP-69 and SP-58 Type 40 guidelines as well as Federal Specification A-A-1192A Type 40.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitment insulation protection shield for nominal 2-1/2 inch insulated piping systems using pipe hangers and supports per MSS SP-58 Type 40 and SP-69 specifications.
Installed by licensed pipefitters or plumbers as part of a pipe hanger assembly on insulated piping. Isolate or depressurize the piping system before modifying supports. The shield seats between the pipe insulation and the hanger bearing surface to prevent crushing. Follow applicable ASME, MSS, and local mechanical code requirements for pipe support spacing and hanger type.
