The MACOMB GROUP APPROVED 829-337 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducing coupling designed for pressure piping systems that require a transition from a 3-inch line down to a 1.5-inch line. Manufactured by Chemtrol under Model 4501-R, this fitting uses a slip and socket weld connection method for a solvent-cemented joint. The body is molded from Type 1, Grade I PVC cell class 12454 material conforming to ASTM D1784 and ASTM D2467, giving it the wall thickness and pressure rating expected of SCH 80 fittings. It is rated to 140 degrees F and carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and 61 Annex G certification, making it suitable for potable water and chemical handling applications.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and commercial plumbing, industrial process piping, and pool and spa circulation systems where a Schedule 80 gray PVC fitting is specified. The slip socket end accepts standard IPS pipe for solvent cement installation. It is a common choice for mechanical rooms, pump stations, and chemical feed lines where a step-down in pipe diameter is needed mid-run or at equipment connections.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using 3-inch to 1.5-inch reducing connections with solvent cement slip socket ends.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before cutting into the line. Use only PVC Schedule 80-rated solvent cement and primer rated for the service conditions; do not substitute SCH 40 cement. Allow full cure time per the cement manufacturer instructions before returning the system to pressure.
