The M.A. FORD 40325000 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create accurate center points and chamfered entry holes for follow-on twist drills or boring operations. Built to Series 403 standards, this tool features a 120-degree drill point angle and a 1/4-inch cutting diameter, making it a practical choice for precision spotting in metal fabrication and machining environments. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose work across a range of workpiece materials. With a 2-inch overall length and a straight cylindrical shank, it seats securely in standard chucks and collet holders. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die techs, and CNC setup operators are the primary users.
This spotting drill is suited for general-purpose metal spotting operations in both manual and CNC machining centers. Its compact 2-inch overall length and 1/4-inch shank diameter make it a fit for smaller spindle setups, benchtop mills, and light-duty machining fixtures. The right-hand spiral flute geometry, 21-degree helix angle, and two-flute design support clean chip evacuation during the spotting pass. It is appropriate for both production runs and one-off prototype work where hole location accuracy is critical before drilling to final diameter.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill compatible with standard 1/4-inch straight-shank tool holders, collets, and drill chucks used in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle powered down and fully stopped. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck to minimize runout before operation. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and carbide tooling before engaging the cut. Carbide is brittle relative to high-speed steel, so avoid side-loading or using this tool as an end mill.
