The M.A. FORD 40221870 is a solid carbide combination drill countersink designed to drill and countersink in a single operation. It carries a trade size of 6, a 1/2-inch body diameter, and a 7/32-inch drill point diameter with a 7/32-inch point length. The overall length is 3 inches. The bright polished finish reduces friction and helps resist chip buildup. The 60-degree included angle is suited for standard countersink geometry. Right-hand cutting direction and a plain cutting edge style make this a straightforward, reliable tool for production or repair work. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die specialists, and maintenance trades working with ferrous and high-strength materials.
This combo drill countersink is built for use on cast iron, hardened steel, stainless steel, special alloy, and general steel. It belongs to M.A. FORD Series 402 and is classified as a long-length tool, which provides additional reach for deeper part geometries or fixtures. The double end type allows for extended tool life. Typical applications include countersinking fastener seats and drilling pilot holes simultaneously in metalworking, aerospace maintenance, and industrial fabrication environments where solid carbide is required for hardened or abrasive workpiece materials.
Designed for use on cast iron, hardened steel, stainless steel, special alloy, and carbon steel workpieces. Suited for applications requiring countersinking and drilling in a single operation on hard or abrasive materials.
This tool is installed in a compatible drill chuck or collet rated for the 1/2-inch body diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and secured before mounting or removing the tool. Verify RPM and feed rate settings are appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter before cutting. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in setups with excessive runout or vibration, as this may cause chipping or tool failure.
