The M.A. FORD 30201801 is a solid carbide micro drill bit designed for precision small-diameter drilling in demanding materials. It carries a wire gauge size of 77, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.0180 inches, and features a 130-degree split-style point angle suited for accurate entry and reduced walking on hard surfaces. The overall length is 1.5 inches, with a flute length of 0.25 inches and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 1/8 inch. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for carbide micro drills used in applications where coating buildup tolerance is critical. This bit is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision fabricators.
This micro drill bit is engineered for work in tight-tolerance applications across a wide range of workpiece materials including cast iron, hardened steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, non-ferrous metals, special alloys, and tool steel. Micro drill bits of this diameter require a precision collet or chuck rated for 1/8 inch shanks — standard drill chucks with excessive runout will cause breakage at this diameter. Set spindle speed and feed rate per the machine tool manufacturer and carbide tooling guidelines for the specific workpiece material; do not use feed rates calibrated for high-speed steel tooling. Secure the workpiece firmly before operation. Inspect the cutting edges under magnification before each use, as carbide micro drills at this diameter are brittle and may chip if previously overloaded.
