The M.A. FORD. 2XDSS1142A is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It carries a 0.1142 inch (2.90 mm) diameter, a 142-degree drill point angle, and a coated finish that supports tool life in abrasive materials. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1142 inch in diameter and 1.1811 inches in length, with an overall length of 1.811 inches (46.00 mm). The fast spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for close-tolerance holes in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The screw machine length format - shorter than jobber length - provides added rigidity and reduced deflection, making it well-suited for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and screw machine applications where runout and positional accuracy matter. The single-margin design and fast spiral flute work together to maintain cut stability in tough, work-hardening materials like stainless steel. Maximum drilling depth is 12.00 mm (approximately 0.472 inches).
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and screw machines requiring a straight-cylindrical shank drill bit in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch diameter range. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, and steel.
This bit is installed by machinists and CNC operators into drill chucks or collet holders that accept a straight-cylindrical shank. Confirm spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before operation, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under lateral load. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so surface-applied coolant or cutting fluid should be used when drilling stainless steel or deep holes. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use - carbide bits should never be forced through a workpiece at feeds exceeding the manufacturer recommendation for the material.
