The M.A. FORD. 2XDCR5312A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It carries a 17/32 inch (0.5313 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a 142-degree split-point geometry and an ALtima titanium nitride (AlTiN) coating. Overall length is 5.28 inches with a 3.03-inch flute length, producing a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for deeper holes without regrinding. The straight cylindrical shank measures 35/64 inch (0.5469 inch decimal). This bit is intended for installation and use by machinists, toolroom techs, and maintenance professionals running CNC or manual drilling operations on hard workpiece materials.
The 2XDCR5312A targets primary workpiece materials classified as steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys — material codes H, M, and S under ISO designation. The AlTiN coating extends tool life when cutting austenitic stainless grades and nickel-base superalloys where heat buildup is a concern. Coolant-through capability allows internal delivery of cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, making this drill well-suited to production environments where through-spindle coolant is available. The two-flute regular spiral design provides efficient chip evacuation in these chip-prone materials.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual drilling equipment with straight-shank toolholders accepting a 35/64 inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes H, M, and S). Part of the M.A. FORD. Series 2XDCR high-performance carbide drill family.
Install and service by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with carbide cutting tool handling. Secure the straight shank in a precision collet or drill chuck rated for the shank diameter before starting the spindle. Carbide is brittle — avoid lateral loading, interrupted cuts without proper feeds, or dropping the tool on hard surfaces. When using coolant-through capability, verify spindle coolant pressure and flow are within the machine tool manufacturer's recommended range before beginning the cut.
