Product Description

The M.A. FORD 2XDCR5000A is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 142-degree split point, and an ALtima coating that extends tool life in abrasive and high-temperature applications. The overall length is 4.75 inches with a flute length of 2.83 inches and a maximum drilling depth of 2.26 inches. A web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. This bit is suited for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with temperature-resistant alloys, high-strength steels, and superalloys in production or maintenance environments.

This drill bit is engineered for primary use in temperature alloys and high-performance workpiece materials classified under material codes H, M, and S — covering hardened steels, stainless steels, and superalloys. The 2XDCR series is rated for a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, making it appropriate for moderate-depth holes in materials that generate significant cutting heat. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed drilling cycles in machining centers and CNC equipment where through-spindle coolant is available. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders with a 1/2 inch bore.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in hard and abrasive materials
  • ALtima coating provides heat and oxidation resistance, extending tool life in temperature alloys
  • 142-degree drill point angle reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry
  • Web-thinned, tapered web enhances chip evacuation and lowers cutting forces
  • Coolant-through design supports high-speed CNC drilling with through-spindle coolant
  • Right-hand, regular spiral flute with a 5xD flute ratio for moderate-depth hole applications

Compatibility

Designed as a replacement or production-use drill bit for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machine tools equipped with a 1/2 inch straight-shank collet or drill chuck. Intended for drilling temperature alloys, stainless steels, and superalloys within the 0.5000 to 0.6500 inch size range of the 2XDCR series.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Always engage through-spindle coolant before the cut when coolant-through capability is used. Do not exceed the 2.26-inch maximum drilling depth without retracting to clear chips.
