The M.A. FORD 2XDCL2480A is a taper length solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Ground to a 6.3 mm (0.2480 inch) diameter with a 142-degree split point, this bit delivers accurate hole entry and reduced walking on hard and abrasive workpiece materials. A TiN coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life in high-cycle production environments. The straight cylindrical shank and 60 mm spiral flute are engineered for consistent chip evacuation at depth. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and CNC operators are the primary installers of this type of cutting tool.
This drill bit is suited for production and job-shop environments requiring reliable performance in cast iron, titanium, carbon steel, alloy steel, and tool steel. The 7xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling up to 48 mm deep in a single pass, making it appropriate for deep-hole operations without intermediate retract cycles. Coolant-through capability allows internal flood or mist delivery directly to the cutting edge, which is critical when working titanium or hardened steel where heat buildup accelerates tool wear.
Designed for use in materials including cast iron, titanium, carbon steel, steel, and tool steel. Fits standard straight-bore collets and drill chucks accepting an 8 mm cylindrical shank. Part of the M.A. FORD 2XDCL series.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a collet or chuck rated for the required RPM and feed load before operation. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feeds, or dropping the tool on hard surfaces. Always engage coolant-through supply before the tool contacts the workpiece when drilling titanium or hardened steel.
