The M.A. FORD 2MDCL0787A is a solid carbide micro drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It measures 0.0787 inches (2.00 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 2.913 inches (74.00 mm) and a flute length of 0.945 inches (24.00 mm). The bit features a 140-degree drill point angle, a slow spiral flute configuration, and an ALtima coating for extended tool life in abrasive and hard-to-machine materials. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals working in production or job-shop environments where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required.
This drill bit is suited for ferrous and high-strength material applications including cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, high-temperature alloys, and titanium. The 10xD flute-by-diameter ratio and maximum drilling depth of 0.709 inches (18.00 mm) make it appropriate for controlled-depth bores in precision components. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management at depth, which is especially important when drilling stainless and titanium alloys. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and drill chucks common on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Designed as a Series 2MDCL replacement or direct-application micro drill bit compatible with standard straight-cylindrical collet chucks and drill chucks accepting a 3.00 mm (0.118 inch) shank diameter on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and precision drill presses.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling practices. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation, and verify coolant-through lines are clear before engaging the spindle. Carbide is brittle - avoid side loads, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed adjustments, or dropping the tool. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate based on workpiece material.
