The M.A. FORD. 278L25000B is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining environments. It carries a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length with a matching 1/4 inch shank diameter. The 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlCrN (aluminum chromium nitride) coating delivers elevated heat resistance and extended tool life in hardened steels, stainless, and other difficult-to-machine alloys. The variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC milling operations.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where longer reach and aggressive flute geometry are required. The long-series configuration extends reach into deeper cavities without the need for extended-reach toolholders. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry as well as conventional ramping or helical interpolation. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard CNC spindle configurations. It fits standard 1/4 inch collets and end mill holders commonly used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit cutting tool for CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with 1/4 inch collet or end mill holder tooling systems.
Installation and tool changes must be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a safe, locked-out state. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the collet or holder and tightened to the toolholder manufacturer specifications before running. Inspect the collet for wear or runout before use, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and reduce part quality. Follow your machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when selecting speeds and feeds for this tool.
