The M.A. FORD. 27718700B is a 4-flute square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Built to Series 277 specifications, it features a variable helix and variable index geometry that reduces harmonics and chatter during cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. The mill diameter is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch), with a length of cut of 0.1900 inches, a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.1900 inches, and an overall length of 2.0000 inches. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. The 41-degree helical flute angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is suited for milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. Its variable helix and variable index design make it particularly effective in applications where vibration and chatter are concerns, such as finishing passes, shoulder milling, and slotting in difficult-to-machine materials. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide or high-speed steel square end mill for use in standard straight-shank ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and compatible toolholding systems on CNC and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder matching the 0.1900-inch shank diameter to prevent runout and tool pullout. Verify tool projection and secure clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before initiating any cutting operation.
