The M.A. FORD 27249900 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. Built to a 0.499-inch (0.4990 decimal inch) diameter with a tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0004 inches, this reamer produces tight, accurate bores suitable for close-tolerance fits. The straight shank mounts directly in a chuck, and the six-flute straight configuration delivers smooth, consistent material removal. With a 4-inch overall length and a 1.5-inch flute length, it is well suited for shallow to medium-depth reaming operations. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tool.
This reamer is used in precision machining environments including job shops, production floors, and maintenance facilities where hole diameter accuracy is critical. It is appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a solid carbide cutting edge provides an advantage in rigidity and wear resistance over high-speed steel alternatives. The uncoated finish makes it suitable for applications where coating buildup or interaction with cutting fluid chemistry is a concern. It is sold individually and is sized for use in standard chucking setups on lathes, drill presses, and machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in standard chuck-mount reaming operations on lathes, drill presses, and CNC machining centers requiring a 0.499-inch finished bore diameter.
Installation and use of this reamer should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with cutting tool setup and speeds and feeds for carbide tooling. Ensure the workpiece and machine spindle are fully secured before beginning the reaming operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to prevent tool overheating and maintain bore finish quality. Do not use carbide reamers to remove excessive stock; pre-drill or bore the hole to within recommended allowance before reaming.
