The M.A. FORD 27224950 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. Built to Series 272 specifications, it produces tightly toleranced bores sized to accept dowel pins at the 0.2495-inch nominal diameter with a tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0003 inches. The four straight flutes and right-hand cutting direction provide clean, consistent material removal. The straight cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in standard chucks and collets. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, it is suited for close-tolerance work on machining centers and drill presses.
This reamer is used in precision machining environments where hole diameter accuracy and surface finish are critical. Typical applications include bore finishing for dowel pin locations, alignment holes, and close-tolerance fit bores in tooling plates, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies. The uncoated solid carbide construction performs well in non-ferrous metals, cast iron, and hardened steels where dimensional control is the primary requirement. It is commonly run on CNC machining centers and manual mills by machinists and toolmakers requiring repeatable, production-quality results.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in standard drill chucks, ER collets, and straight-shank tool holders compatible with a 0.2495-inch shank diameter on CNC machining centers and manual milling and drilling equipment.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with reaming procedures and machine tool setup. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully secured and the machine is at the correct speed and feed for carbide tooling before engaging the reamer. Use an appropriate cutting fluid to maintain tool life and bore finish quality. Do not run dry on ferrous materials, and never reverse the spindle while the reamer is engaged in the bore.
