The M.A. FORD 27218700 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in machined components. Built to Series 272 specifications, it produces accurately sized bores with a right-hand cutting direction and four straight flutes. The 4.75mm reaming diameter carries a tolerance of +0.005 to +0.010 mm, making it suitable for close-tolerance work where hole size and surface finish are critical. The straight-cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in standard drill chucks, collets, or toolholders. Machinists and tool-room technicians use this reamer in manual or CNC machine tools where consistent bore quality is required across production runs.
This reamer is suited for finishing pre-drilled or bored holes in metalworking applications where the final bore diameter must fall within tight tolerances. The 4.75mm diameter places it in the 4.00 to 5.00 mm range commonly required in precision fixture work, jig-plate construction, and component assembly. The 22.00mm flute length supports through-hole and short blind-hole finishing. The bright, uncoated carbide surface is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where coating is not required. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application at the entry point is the standard approach.
Designed as an OEM-style precision chucking reamer for use in standard drill chucks, end-mill holders, and collet systems that accept straight-cylindrical shanks in the 4.75mm diameter range.
A licensed machinist or toolroom technician should install and operate this reamer. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the tool from the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck or collet is properly torqued before initiating a cut. Apply appropriate cutting fluid externally at the hole entry when machining, as this tool does not support coolant-through delivery.
