The M.A. FORD. 27214400 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to a precise diameter of 0.1440 inches, corresponding to No. 27 wire gauge size. Built from solid carbide, this reamer delivers superior hardness and wear resistance compared to high-speed steel tooling, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work in harder materials. It features a 4-flute straight configuration with right-hand cutting direction and carries a reamer diameter tolerance of plus 0.0001 to plus 0.0003 inches. The straight shank seats directly into a drill chuck or collet, and the uncoated finish makes it easy to inspect for wear. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically deploy this reamer as a finishing pass after drilling.
This reamer is sized for precision hole finishing in light industrial and job-shop machining applications. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a flute length of 0.75 inches, it fits compact setups including CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and manual drill presses where short-reach tooling is required. The No. 27 wire-size diameter suits small-bore work common in instrument manufacturing, mold work, and close-tolerance assembly fixturing. It does not incorporate coolant-through capability and is not configured as a dowel pin or over/under size reamer.
Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide chucking reamer for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a straight shank in the 0.1440 inch diameter range. Part of M.A. FORD. Series 272.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool-and-die technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. A pre-drilled pilot hole sized appropriately undersize is required before reaming; never use a reamer as a drill. Follow shop-standard feeds and speeds for carbide tooling in the workpiece material to avoid chipping the cutting edges.
