The M.A. FORD. 22909600 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. Sized at wire gauge 41 (0.0960 inches), it features a 150-degree drill point angle with web thinning and a tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The three-flute parabolic spiral design promotes faster chip removal and better hole quality at higher feed rates. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks without modification and is suited for use on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses by machinists and tooling technicians.
This drill bit is intended for use on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum, brass, copper, and similar workpiece materials designated under material code N and O. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0960 inches diameter seats directly into collets or chucks with matching bore sizes. The bright uncoated finish keeps the carbide substrate exposed, which works well in non-ferrous applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup is not a primary concern. Series 229 from M.A. FORD. targets high-performance drilling where dimensional accuracy and hole finish are critical.
Designed for use in non-ferrous metal workpiece materials (material codes N and O) in applications requiring wire gauge 41 diameter holes; compatible with standard straight-cylindrical collets and chucks accepting a 0.0960-inch shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight shank firmly in a collet or drill chuck before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting the bit. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds when working with solid carbide tooling in non-ferrous materials.
