The M.A. FORD. 22408660 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and machining applications. It carries a 0.0866 inch diameter with a 118-degree faceted point and a bright/uncoated finish. The two-flute, right-hand spiral design follows a regular spiral pattern with a web-thinned, tapered web for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. Overall length is 53.00 mm with a 27.00 mm flute length and a 26.00 mm shank length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0900 inches in diameter. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this bit for general-purpose hole-making in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel, corresponding to material codes K, M, N, and P. It is well suited for production drilling on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes in job shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance environments. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and solid carbide substrate make it a reliable choice where high-temperature resistance and rigidity are required at small diameters. It conforms to DIN 338 geometry standards and is manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 certified processes.
Designed for general-purpose drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. Fits standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0900 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches ensures consistent fit in close-tolerance applications.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling professional familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck rated for the spindle speed required by the workpiece material. Carbide is brittle at small diameters — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, and hand-feeding without controlled downfeed pressure. Inspect the cutting edge before each use; replace the bit at first sign of chipping or point wear to prevent workpiece damage and bit breakage.
