The M.A. FORD. 20610650 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-precision, short-reach drilling in demanding production environments. Ground to a 0.1065 inch (Wire Size 36) diameter with a 118-degree faceted point and web-thinned tip, it delivers clean, accurate entry in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The bright, uncoated solid carbide construction offers rigidity and dimensional stability well suited to CNC drill presses, machining centers, and screw machine operations where a short, stiff tool is required. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix provide consistent chip evacuation throughout the cut.
This bit is intended for metalworking applications in light manufacturing, tool rooms, and production machining. The screw machine length profile — 2.0 inches overall with a 0.625 inch flute length and a 1.375 inch straight-cylindrical shank — keeps deflection minimal when drilling small-diameter holes in tough ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. It is well suited to automated drilling cycles where hole location tolerance is tight and tool runout must be controlled. A 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearing in short through-holes and blind holes alike.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide screw machine drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.1065 inch straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines set up for Wire Size 36 drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or keyless chuck before starting the spindle, and verify runout with a dial indicator when hole-location tolerance is critical. Solid carbide is brittle — avoid side loads and interrupted cuts that can cause chipping or breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material and always inspect the cutting edges before each use.
