The M.A. FORD 20604690 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit sized at 3/64 inch (0.0469 inches) diameter with a 118-degree faceted point angle. It is designed for short-reach, high-precision drilling in tight setups where a jobber-length bit would introduce too much deflection. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard chucks and collets without modification. Web thinning reduces thrust force at the tip, making entry cleaner in harder materials. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working with small-diameter holes install this bit in CNC machines, drill presses, and hand-held power tools.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The short screw machine length body limits overhang and improves rigidity when drilling in cramped fixtures or shallow-depth applications. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry provide adequate chip evacuation for these material types at appropriate feed and speed parameters. It is well suited for production shops, maintenance departments, and toolrooms requiring consistent small-diameter hole quality.
Designed as an OEM-style short-length carbide drill for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and bench-top drilling setups requiring a straight-cylindrical shank bit in the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch diameter range (M.A. FORD Series 206).
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits for small-diameter carbide tooling. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts at excessive feed rates, or re-chucking at an angle, as any of these can fracture the bit. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before engaging the cut.
