Product Description

The M.A. FORD. 20528120 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-precision hole-making in demanding materials. At 9/32 inch (0.2812 inches) in diameter, it features a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned parallel web construction that reduces entry thrust and improves centering without a center punch. The bright/uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece is a concern. With an overall length of 2-11/16 inches and a 1-1/2 inch flute length, this is a compact, rigid tool built for machine-shop and production-floor use by machinists and toolroom technicians.

This drill bit is engineered for right-hand cutting in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The screw machine length (stub) profile provides greater rigidity than jobber-length bits, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where minimal tool deflection is critical. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and slow spiral flute geometry are optimized for chip evacuation in short-chipping materials such as cast iron and stainless steel. It is sold individually and is part of M.A. FORD. Series 205.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials
  • 135-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust and improves self-centering
  • Screw machine (stub) length of 2-11/16 inches overall for maximum rigidity in short-reach applications
  • Slow spiral, 2-flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation in cast iron and stainless steel
  • Straight-cylindrical shank at 0.2812 inches diameter fits standard drill chucks and collets
  • Bright/uncoated finish with diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches for precise hole sizing

Compatibility

Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. Part of M.A. FORD. Series 205, covering drill bit diameters from 0.2500 to 0.3000 inches in this range.

Installation Notes

Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout and tool breakage. Solid carbide is brittle — avoid lateral loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed adjustments, or re-chucking a visibly worn or chipped bit. Always follow machine-specific RPM and feed rate guidelines for the workpiece material and tool diameter.
