Product Description

The M.A. FORD 20509380 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.0938 inches (3/32 inch) in diameter and runs a 135-degree split point for fast, self-centering starts with minimal walking. The short screw machine length geometry provides increased rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well suited for close-tolerance work in drill presses, CNC machines, and screw machine operations. Right-hand cut with a slow spiral flute, it is engineered to evacuate chips efficiently while maintaining accuracy through the full flute depth of 0.75 inches.

This drill bit is intended for production and maintenance drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The solid carbide construction handles the hardness and abrasiveness of these materials better than high-speed steel alternatives, making it a practical choice for machinists, tool and die shops, and maintenance technicians who drill small-diameter holes repeatedly or in tough alloys. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters, and the web-thinned, parallel web design reduces thrust requirements at the cut.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials
  • 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and reduced thrust
  • Screw machine (stub) length for added rigidity and reduced deflection in small-diameter drilling
  • Slow spiral flute optimized for chip evacuation in cast iron and stainless steel
  • Web-thinned parallel web lowers cutting resistance and heat buildup
  • Diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches for close-tolerance hole sizing

Compatibility

Designed for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0938-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of M.A. FORD Series 205 screw machine length carbide drill bits covering the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch diameter range.

Installation Notes

Solid carbide drill bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel and must be used in rigid setups such as drill presses, CNC machining centers, or turret lathes — hand drilling is not recommended at this diameter. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling to prevent bit breakage. No coolant-through capability; apply cutting fluid externally where required by the workpiece material. Follow shop safety standards and appropriate machine guarding practices during use.
