The M.A. FORD 20478120 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding industrial and trade applications. Built to Series 204 specifications, it features a 25/32 inch (0.7812 inch) diameter, a 118-degree faceted point angle, and a 6 inch overall length with a 4 inch spiral flute length. The bright, uncoated carbide construction delivers excellent heat resistance and edge retention. Web thinning reduces thrust load at the point, improving penetration in tough materials. This bit is suited for licensed machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and skilled tradespeople who require consistent hole geometry and tight diameter tolerances.
Designed as a general-purpose drilling solution, the 20478120 is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The right-hand, regular spiral flute configuration handles a wide range of workpiece materials across production and job-shop environments. The straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks found on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools where the chuck capacity allows a 25/32 inch shank diameter.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel (material codes K, M, N, and P). Fits standard drill chucks accepting a 25/32 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drill bit diameter ranges of 0.6500 inch and above as specified in the Series 204 product family.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with rotating cutting tools and applicable shop safety standards. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling, and confirm the drill press or machine spindle is fully powered down before inserting or removing the bit. Carbide tooling is brittle compared to high-speed steel and should not be subjected to lateral shock loads or dropped onto hard surfaces. Verify chuck runout and clamping force before use to protect the shank and maintain hole-location accuracy.
