The M.A. FORD 20414050 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit sized at No. 28 wire gauge (0.1405 inches decimal equivalent) with a 118-degree faceted point angle. Designed for right-hand spiral cutting, this bit features a tapered web with web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The bright uncoated finish preserves a sharp cutting edge out of the box. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.375-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks via its straight-cylindrical shank. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators are the primary users for precision hole-making in production environments.
This bit is rated for general-purpose drilling across a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate depth holes in both manual and CNC-driven operations. With regular spiral geometry and a two-flute configuration, it handles chip flow efficiently in ferrous and non-ferrous applications alike. It is suited for shops that drill small-diameter holes at high precision tolerances, particularly where hole location accuracy and clean entry are required.
Designed for general-purpose drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1405-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the M.A. FORD Series 204 jobber length solid carbide drill line.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before engaging the workpiece. Solid carbide bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid lateral loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed rate adjustment, and dropping the tool on hard surfaces. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use external coolant or cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material.
