The M.A. FORD. 20409800 is a jobber length drill bit in wire size No. 40 (0.0980 inches diameter) designed for general purpose drilling in demanding materials. Built from solid carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree faceted point and a web-thinned, tapered web for reduced thrust at entry. The spiral flute design with a regular helix promotes chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. Overall length is 2 inches, with a 1-inch flute length. Right-hand cut with a straight cylindrical shank matching the 0.0980-inch drill diameter. Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 certified standards to Series 204 specifications.
This drill bit is suited for applications in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The solid carbide construction holds up in harder workpiece materials where high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. General purpose grade makes it appropriate for production drilling in job shops, maintenance and repair operations, and toolroom environments. No coolant-through capability; suitable for external coolant or dry drilling setups where the small diameter and short flute length allow adequate chip clearance.
Designed as a general purpose jobber length drill bit for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0980-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians using drill presses, CNC machining centers, or hand-held power drills with an appropriate chuck. Secure the straight cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout. No coolant-through provision exists on this bit; apply external coolant or cutting oil as appropriate for the workpiece material to manage heat at the cutting edge. Inspect the carbide point for chipping before each use, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage if dropped or improperly handled.
