The M.A. FORD 20408600A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding production environments. Ground to a No. 44 wire gauge size (0.0860 inches), it features a 118-degree, 4-facet point with web thinning for fast, accurate starting without a center punch. The ALtima aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) coating provides elevated heat resistance and extended tool life in high-speed applications. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, this bit is suited for through-hole and blind-hole work where tight tolerances matter. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working on CNC machines, drill presses, and manual mills.
This drill bit is built for cutting steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in general-purpose and production machining applications. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in these materials. The straight cylindrical shank and 0.0860-inch shank diameter allow it to seat directly in standard collets, keyless chucks, and keyed drill chucks without adapters. It is appropriate for both horizontal and vertical spindle setups where consistent hole quality and repeatability are required across multiple workpieces.
Designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collets sized for a 0.0860-inch straight cylindrical shank. Part of M.A. FORD Series 204, covering the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch decimal inch drill bit size range.
This bit is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered off or placed in an e-stop state before changing tooling. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable limits before use, as excessive runout accelerates wear on small-diameter carbide bits. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; use flood coolant or mist at the cutting zone where the machine allows.
