The M.A. FORD 20401800 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit sized to wire gauge 77, with a decimal diameter of 0.0180 inches and an overall length of 1.5 inches. The bit features a 118-degree faceted drill point, a regular spiral flute with a 5xD flute-by-diameter ratio, and a straight-cylindrical shank of 0.0180 inches in diameter. The web is thinned and tapered for improved chip clearance and reduced thrust at entry. It carries a bright, uncoated finish and is manufactured to ISO 9001:2015 standards. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and precision fabricators install this bit in drilling operations requiring tight dimensional control at very small diameters.
This drill bit is designed for general-purpose drilling in a range of materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. Its solid carbide construction makes it well suited for hard and abrasive workpieces where high-speed steel tooling would wear prematurely. With a flute length of 0.25 inches and a 5xD flute ratio, it is appropriate for through-holes and blind-hole applications in production and job-shop environments where small-diameter precision is critical.
Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide jobber drill for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accommodating a 0.0180-inch straight-cylindrical shank, suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces.
This bit is installed by machinists and precision fabricators in drill presses, CNC machining centers, or hand-held drilling equipment fitted with a collet or chuck capable of gripping a 0.0180-inch shank securely. Ensure the machine is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before changing tooling. At this diameter, use low feed pressure and appropriate cutting speeds per the workpiece material to avoid bit breakage. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally as needed for the application.
