The M.A. FORD. 20401600 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding materials. Built to wire size 78 with a decimal diameter of 0.0160 inches, it features a 118-degree faceted point angle and a regular spiral flute with a right-hand cutting direction. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. With an overall length of 1.5 inches and a flute length of 0.25 inches at a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit suits high-accuracy, small-diameter drilling operations performed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose use across a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.0160-inch shank diameter seats directly into standard collet chucks and drill chucks without adapters. It is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual toolroom operations where tight-tolerance small-diameter holes are required. The bright uncoated finish makes it appropriate for applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup is not a primary concern.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.0160-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces per Series 204 application guidelines.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a concentric collet or drill chuck before operation to prevent runout damage to the bit. Carbide is brittle and will fracture under side loading or improper workholding - do not use in hand-held portable drills. Set spindle speed and feed rate according to the workpiece material and machine manufacturer recommendations before engaging the cut.
