The M.A. FORD. 20046870 is a solid carbide, straight-flute die drill bit designed for precision holemaking in demanding metalworking applications. Built to DIN standards, it features a 135-degree split point with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve centering on entry. The 15/32 inch (0.4688 inch) diameter bit holds a tight tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work in tool and die, mold, and production machining environments. With a 1 inch flute length and 3 inch overall length, this bit is well suited for shallow-to-medium depth holes where rigidity and accuracy are critical. Machinists and tool and die makers are the primary users.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, hardened materials, high temperature alloys, titanium, ceramic, and glass. Its short, rigid geometry and carbide substrate make it a go-to choice in tool rooms, die shops, and production floors where conventional high-speed steel bits fall short. The right-hand cutting direction and 2-flute configuration suit standard CNC and manual drilling setups. It fits into Series 200 applications where a straight-shank die drill geometry is specified.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel (material codes H, K, M, N, P, S), as well as secondary materials including alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, ceramic, glass, hardened materials, high temperature alloys, stainless steel, and titanium. Fits Series 200 die drill applications with a 15/32 inch straight shank.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a compatible collet or drill chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Coolant through is not supported on this tool, so apply external cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove from service at the first sign of chipping or edge breakdown.
